Volunteer as an individual
Individual volunteers are a tremendous asset, supporting Win in our corporate offices and/or in our shelters. We need dedicated people in the roles of:
- Residence Heroes/Headquarter Champions – Assist and support the case managers and site staff on location.
- Backpack Buddies/Santa’s Helpers – Help sort, deliver, and organize the Win kids’ drives.
- Win-kind helpers – Help organize and sort our donation space.
- Special Projects.
Please fill out an application if you are interested in volunteering with us. Forms will be processed within two weeks. Once your application goes through, you will be required to participate in a phone-orientation with our Volunteer Coordinator. Orientations are held the first Thursday of the month at 5pm EST and the third Wednesday of the month at 6pm EST.
Individual volunteers must be 18 or older. Please see the Group Volunteer section for larger groups.
Residence Heroes/Headquarter Champions
Headquarters (HQ) Champions support our main office staff in Manhattan by assisting with filing, data entry and reception duties, as well as special projects. HQ Champions have the opportunity to learn about different departments in nonprofit organizations. Potential HQ Champions should have great organizational skills.
Case Manager (CM) Champions support our Win social services staff by assisting them with general office duties, including answering phones, filing and data entry. This helps them focus their time on supporting individual family needs. This is a great way to learn more about social work in a shelter environment.
Backpack Buddies/Santa’s Helpers
Backpack Buddies help out during Win’s Operation Backpacks Drive in the summer, helping Win and various city-wide sponsors provide the children in our programs with over 1,500 new backpacks and supplies for the beginning of the school year. Backpack Buddies help pack up and deliver the new backpacks to our 10 family shelter-residences. Individuals interested in this opportunity can learn more details and begin to sign-up to volunteer at the end of May.
Santa’s Helpers make the holidays a little brighter for Win children by helping to collect and sort over 2,000 gifts for our Holiday Gift Program. Individuals interested in this opportunity can learn more details and sign-up to volunteer in mid-September.
Win-kind helpers – Help organize and sort our donation space
Win-kind helpers can volunteer Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays during office hours, helping our staff sort through the in-kind donations we receive from groups across the city. In some cases, volunteers will help put together incentive packages for clients or fulfill client requests for their families.
Win has events through the year that benefit our moms and children. We often need volunteers to help us organize and run these activities. Fill out our volunteer application below and we’ll update you as events come up.
