Volunteer as a group
The Win Volunteer Services team has created a menu of programs for groups to choose or pull inspiration from when creating their activities. This allows for the groups to see the activities that work best, what supplies are needed, and the time-frame for each activity. Please note: groups are required to come up with their own activities, though Win staff is more than happy to give you ideas.
Activities with our children may include:
- STEM-based activities, which could include volcano eruptions, ice-cream making, cooking classes and more
- Literacy projects, which could include reading activities, creating mad-libs and mini-book reports
- Arts and crafts projects
- Group themed parties
- Outdoor activities
Our children programming hours run from 4-7pm, Monday – Friday during the school year. During Camp Win (school holidays and summer break), our hours are and 9 am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.
Activities with our adults may include:
- Financial Literacy workshops
- Job Readiness workshops
- Health and wellness workshops
- Spa Days and beauty days with makeup, manicures and neck and shoulder massages
- Recreational activities such as family game nights
Our adult programming hours run from 10 am-4 pm, Monday – Friday. During the summertime we focus on children’s programing.
Parties for families can be scheduled for weekday evenings pending the approval of the sites.
Win can accommodate up to 15 volunteers per event, unless it is a special event. The ideal number is 8 – 12 volunteers per group, but this is dependent on the location and content of the event. All volunteers under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers must supply any necessary items to make their volunteer event a success. This includes things like color paper, stickers and glue for arts and crafts projects, as well as refreshments and gifts for workshops and beauty days. This helps our recreation programs keep supplies high for children in shelters, and also gives adults and families great incentive to participate in group activities.
Win asks all volunteers to adhere to confidentiality policies while working in our shelters and clinics. This includes a policy of no volunteer photography or filmography. All volunteers will be asked to sign a waiver during their Orientation to the event. WIN staff may take photos of the event and will obtain permission from volunteers before doing so. Any pictures that do not contain residents’ faces can be shared with the Volunteer Group.
If you are representing a Group interested in doing an event, please fill out the form below and someone from the Volunteer Services Department will contact you. Thank you for your interest!
“BlackRock has been working with Win to create fun learning activities for the children of Win over the past year. This menu has made the process much easier by identifying creative and engaging activities that you know the kids will enjoy! Working with you has been a ton of fun, but also very easy. I wish organizing all volunteer events could be this seamless. Thanks for all that you do”
