Recommendations for the NYC Homelessness and Immigration Crises

History has shown time and again that migration bolsters the economy and the community, and we urge the City to remember this reality. However, the current response from all levels of government to the influx of asylum seekers is unsustainably expensive. Sheltering migrants families can cost nearly $400 a night, and current expenditures in New York City have exceeded $2 billion. As an alternative response to this unsustainable spending, Win recommends a coordinated, humane, and fiscally responsible approach from the city, state, and federal governments. To outline our recommendations, we have detailed steps at each level of government that will save money and move more families out of shelter and into permanent housing.
